BHOPAL

One of the greenest cities in India, Bhopal is is the capital of Madhya Pradesh. The second largest state in the country has a large tribal population. Known for its various natural and artificial lakes Bhopal has retained its old world charm despite industrialization. Social and economic empowerment and social justice are a few of the crucial areas of work in this state.

I was in Bhopal to document the UNICEF nutrition program in the state.

The Poshan Abhiyaan was initiated in the State to address nutrition and all forms of under-nutrition issues. UNICEF emphasizes on early childhood development and adolescent empowerment to address all children’s and women’s rights.

Social and behaviour change communication training is provided to strengthen the capacities of frontline workers to mobilize the community to demand quality health care services and promote health-seeking behaviours. More children and women are utilising Anganwadi facilities and community nutition monitoring is creating better awareness.

The state nutrition unit at the district hospital is well designed and equipped to handle all under-nutrition issues and extend awareness creation towards young mothers and communities at large.
